Description
Delicious homemade fried peach pies filled with a sweet peach filling and dusted with powdered sugar.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups diced peaches, drained if canned
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 3 cups neutral oil for frying
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk, optional for glaze
Instructions
- Add peaches, granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cornstarch to a saucepan.
- Cook over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring often, until the filling thickens and looks glossy.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let the filling cool completely.
- Unroll the pie crusts on a lightly floured surface and cut into circles.
- Spoon a small amount of cooled peach filling onto one side of each dough circle.
- Brush the edges with beaten egg, fold the dough over, and crimp the edges with a fork.
- Cut a tiny slit in the top of each pie so steam can escape.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F.
- Fry the pies in small batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Transfer to a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Dust with powdered sugar or mix powdered sugar with milk for a quick glaze and drizzle before serving.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is at the right temperature for frying to achieve a crispy crust.
- These pies can be served warm or at room temperature.
