Description

Delicious baked apples with a sweet cinnamon topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 pounds apples (peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch thick slices)
  • ½ cup (106g) brown sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp (28g) unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Peel the apples. Cut each apple into quarters, remove the core, and slice each quarter into 1/4-inch thick slices. Try to keep the slices uniform to ensure even baking. Add the sliced apples to a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and cornstarch. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples.
  4. Cut the butter into four pieces and place them on top of the apples.
  5. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes, stirring once halfway through at the 20-minute mark.
  6. After 40 minutes, remove the foil and check for doneness. If the apples are not yet fork-tender, re-cover the pan and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until tender.
  7. Serve warm on their own, or enjoy with ice cream, oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, or yogurt.
