Description

This delicious blackberry pie is made with fresh blackberries and a flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 prepared pie crusts
  • 7 cups fresh blackberries, picked over and rinsed
  • 1 cup sugar, plus more for sprinkling crust
  • 5 Tbs instant tapioca
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • milk for brushing crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450F.
  2. Fit one round of pie crust dough into a deep dish pie pan.
  3. In a large bowl, combine blackberries, 1 cup sugar, instant tapioca, and cinnamon, gently tossing together.
  4. Pile mixture into the prepared crust, making the mound slightly higher in the center.
  5. Cover with remaining round of pie crust dough. Use your fingers to press the top dough together with the bottom dough, fluting the edges.
  6. Use a knife to create four 2-3″ vent slits in the top crust.
  7. Brush the top crust with milk, then sprinkle with additional sugar.
  8. Bake for 10 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350F and bake for another 40-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden-brown.
  9. Allow to cool on a rack before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure blackberries are fresh and ripe for the best flavor.
  • Let the pie cool to help set the filling before slicing.
